Top 5 travel toys for toddlers
Are you about to go travelling with a toddler?
When Lucas was little, we would often hop on a plane and travel the 4 hours to Western Australia to visit Grandma. We were so lucky to have the chance to travel, enjoy the weather and get extra cuddles.
It is a long time to ask a child to be still though, especially as a wriggly toddler that has learnt the freedom of walking, or running!
The right toys will help the time go faster and help everyone enjoy the ride.
When you are a parent, you quickly realise you no longer relax when you travel.
Gone are the days of sitting on the plane, taking a deep breathe, and relaxing the whole way there! Now you are the chief entertainment officer for a little person.
We remember that feeling so well, and we have put together a list of the toys we suggest you take when you travel. Having these toys will help you everyone have a fun time.
These suggestions work for travel by plane, train or automobile, just as they work for home.
#1 – Stickers
Beloved by kids for generations. Stickers are a fun way to keep the kids entertained when you are away. Simple to take with you, not a problem if they get lost, and a cheap option too.
Make sure you have somewhere for the stickers to go!
With a large range of sticker you are sure to find some to suit your child.
Cut the sheets into smaller sizes so you can offer new stickers over time.
#2 – Fidget toys
Fidget toys are so good at keeping those fingers and the brain busy. They are a winner when having to sit for a long time. Also important that you can take something quite small that you can carry with you.
We love Calm down bottles, Peekaboo bags and PlayTabs for toddlers.
Playtabs can be used with a board, or separately. Making them ideal for on the go.
#3 - Magic painting
Magic Painting is a special sort of painting, where the beautiful image is displayed with water. There is no mess because the 'painting' is using water, and the images fade as they dry so they can be used again.
#4 - Suction cups
To encourage the kids to stay put you need the toys to stay put. Anything that will suction to the window, tiles, fridge is a great. These are great for the trip and for the time that you are away.
#5 – Books
Books are a great way to entertain kids on the go. Select Books that have sensory elements. That's not my Fire Engine with new things to see on each page.
For Older kids
Snap Cards
Snap cards are a great game for travel. Easy to play, quick games and can be played over and over. Kids can sort the cards for some solo time or play with others.
Magnetic toys
We don't want to forget the older kids.
For the slightly older child, Magnetic toys are terrific for travel.
Magnetic books allows the child to use and reuse the magnets to make different stories. Magnetic Stories are perfect size for travel fun. When you reach your destination the magnets can go on the fridge.
