Play date fun with ...... Tinta Crayons
Hello there, This is my series of blog posts about our fabulous suppliers. I don't want to just copy their "About Us" page and call it a blog, I want to really meet them.
So welcome - to another in our series of PLAY DATES!!
Tinta crayons are handmade by two Mums. Maria and Maria. They used to be neighbours and are now business partners. Such a great story. Don't go thinking they have a hobby business though. This is not just a bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon, Maria and Maria have created a business that supplies to stores all over Australia. Selling 1000's of crayons a week.
With 3 children between them, and no longer neighbours, the Maria pair make all their crayons themselves from natural beeswax. No chemicals, no asbestos, all colour and fun. And in the shape of dinosaurs, vehicles and more.
The girls answered some questions about playdates so you could get to know them a little.
Describe Tinta Crayons in 3 words.
Colourful, fun Crayons.
Why do you do what you do?
We’re passionate about creating safe, natural crayons that inspire kids to play.
We love the look we get from kids (and adults) when they realise they are actually crayons and they can draw with them.
There are not many crayons around which can be described as safe for our children so we put a lot of effort into creating beautiful crayons that are safe.
What did your kids go nuts for when they were toddlers?
Brio trains and train sets plus blocks. And now crayons
Describe your perfect play date.
Perfect play date when the children were younger was just getting out of the house and seeing other people. Now as the kids are a bit older its about catching up with other families/friends and seeing what other people are up to!
It’s time to go when?
When my son usually starts obsessing over the toys and won't share them because of course he has never played with a train before!
What is your favourite gift idea from Lucas loves cars?
Anything wooden - I love that the toys can be kept for years long after they have been finished playing with them - pass them along for generations.
Play dates should include : Tea, coffee or wine?
Depends on the time of day.

The world is changing so quickly. Instagram wasn't even invented 5 years ago, and now I feel like it's a space where I do a lot of my business. Are you following us? We're here.
I found out about Tinta crayons via Instagram, probably about 18 months ago. I don't remember how exactly....but I remember meeting Maria in person and saying something like - 'I know you, but I don't. We are Insta friends.' Since then I have had a similar conversation with many people!
In this world that is moving so fast it's so great to find and support a company that is back to basics. Handmade and natural. I was dying to see them make the crayons, and was quietly hoping to make some myself!
This play date was easy for me. I should let you know that since the day I met Maria we have become quite good friends. I love working with people I like and trust. I adore 'the other' Maria as well and it was nice to get to know her a little bit more.
Turning up in the Tinta kingdom was like being a 7 yr old in the art room! Colours and melting pots, crayons and fun everywhere. I wish I could have taken you around with me and shown you all the fun things, maybe another day.
The girls let me make some crayons! - Girl in a candy store! - I made a car, a plane and a train of course. Watch to the end of the video to see my creations.
It was so fun, but I also learnt that there is a lot of skill in making a crayon.
The girls form Tinta have been ever so generous and have given me some crayons to add to your orders. We have a limited number of love hearts and cars. Because we Love cars! We will add both crayons WITH a colour-in Lucas loves cars Postcard to each order we send out.
While stocks last.
Check out all the TINTA crayons that we stock here. Such a fun present when you're not quite sure what to grab!
Thanks for playing with us.
Helle is the owner and head toy lover at Lucas loves cars. She has been playing with toys for over 5 years, and still hasn't got it quite right, so will continue to play for a while yet.
